    据路透社11月22日报道，在赛后举行的新闻发布会上，曼联主教练弗格森虽然对结果表示失望，但仍然为本队前锋进行了辩护。“我们队有些进攻打得非常好，”弗格森表示，“开赛不久我们就有很多进球机会，但我们的运气不太好。纵观整场比赛，我认为今晚我们的球员打得还可以”。

    本场比赛曼联前锋、荷兰人范·尼斯特鲁伊并没有获得真正的好机会，倒是小将鲁尼、斯科尔斯和C·罗纳尔多获得了一些不错的得分机会，只可惜都没有抓住。弗格森对此表示非常遗憾，认为如果处理得当的话，他们本来可以做得更好一些。同时他还承认自己的球员过于年轻，面对比利亚雷亚尔队球员的防守打法，他们在进攻中明显缺乏耐心。

    “虽然结果令人沮丧，但必须承认对手拥有一些非常有经验的球员，比如塔奇纳迪和索林。他们都很好地完成了自己的任务，让我们的进攻变得很困难。”对于伤愈复出并在后半场替补出场的前锋萨哈，弗格森表示十分满意。“他看上去已经完全痊愈了”，他说，“我觉得他发挥得不错”。

    赛后比利亚雷亚尔队主教练佩雷戈里尼认为，曼联在近5场欧洲冠军联赛中仅打进2球的事实，实际上是D组各队实力的真实体现。“对手拥有很多令人生畏的锋线球员，所以比赛的结果有些令人吃惊”，他说。“我们自己的进攻也很有潜力，但我们同样也没有在小组赛中打进很多球。所以，可以说这个小组各队的实力是非常、非常接近的。”

    United failed to score for the seventh time in eight matches in the competition, not including qualifiers, and are struggling to reach the knockout stages with one game left.

    They have progressed from the group stage for the last nine seasons.

    "Some of our attacking play was very good," Ferguson told a news conference. "We were a bit unlucky with the early chances but that's just the way it goes for you sometimes in Europe.

    "You have to look at the overall performance and I thought we played OK tonight." United striker Ruud van Nistelrooy did not have a genuine chance to continue his impressive scoring record in the competition, but Wayne Rooney, Paul Scholes and Cristiano Ronalso were all guilty of missed opportunities.

    "Ruud's record is second to none except maybe (Real Madrid's) Raul," Ferguson said.

    "Paul might have done better with a couple of goals under his belt and Wayne and Cristiano as well."

    Ferguson did admit that his young team lacked patience as the Villarreal defenders closed the game out.

    "It was frustrating but Villarreal have very experienced players like (Alessio) Tacchinardi and (Juan Pablo) Sorin and they did their jobs very well and made it hard for us," Ferguson said.

    The Scot was at least boosted by the return from injury of striker Louis Saha, whom he sent on as a late substitute.

    "He looked very fit and athletic and I thought he did well," Ferguson said.

    Villarreal coach Manuel Pellegrini said the fact United had scored only two goals in five games was possibly more a reflection on the nature of Group D.

    "Considering the attacking players and flair thay have it is perhaps surprising," Pellegrini said.

    "But we like to think we have a potent attack too and we haven't scored many goals either so it may be more about what has become a very, very tight group."
