MEASURING INTERNATIONALIZATION IN U.S. HIGHER EDUCATION How are colleges and universities internationalizing their curricula and student experiences? What strategies are common among institutions that have actively pursued internationalization? What distinguishes ’high activity’ institutions from other institutions?
Funded by the Ford Foundation and published by the American Council on Education, this publication series provides an overview by institutional sector type (community colleges, liberal arts, comprehensive, and research) of the status of internationalization across U.S. higher education. Drawing on data from two national surveys conducted in 2001 and 2003, ACE has created an ’internationalization index’ to measure internationalization across six key dimensions of internationalization: articulated commitment, academic offerings, organizational infrastructure, external funding, institutional investment in faculty, and international students and student programs. Each publication distinguishes ’high activity’ institutions and presents examples of successful internationalization strategies by sector type.
