World Bank Scholarship In 1987, the World Bank, with funding from the Government of Japan,established the World Bank Graduate Scholarship Program (WBGSP) for graduate studies in subjects related to economic development. Each year, the Program awards scholarships to individuals from World Bank member countries to undertake graduate studies at renowned universities throughout member countries of the Bank. Now in its 19th year, from nearly 50,000 applicants. In addition, 897 scholarships have been awarded in the various JJ/WBGSP Partnership Programs for a total of 3,399 awards
To apply for a JJ/WBGSP scholarship under the Regular Program, an applicant must read carefully the application procedure as outlined below: To be apply to the Regular Program you should: Submit evidence of current unconditional admission (copy of formal admission letter) to at least one development-related university master’s degree program and proof of application to another university located in any World Bank member country except the applicant’s country. The application will not be processed without this requirement. Preference is given to applicants with more than one admission. Be a national of a World Bank member country eligible to borrow. Be between the ages of 25 and 45. Applicants born before March 31, 1961, will not be considered. For verification applicants should send a photocopy of their passport. Have at least 2, preferably 4 to 5, years of recent full-time professional work experience by March 31, 2006 after a university degree in the applicant’s home country or in another developing country and usually in public sector. Hold a bachelor’s degree or its equivalent in a development-related field;have a superior record in previous academic work. Applicant should also send a certified copy of the diploma and transcripts. Propose a program of study related to development at the master’s level, in fields such as economics, public administration, finance, planning, health, population, agriculture, infrastructure, information systems and aquatic resources (provided that the focus of study is on public policy aspects of these fields), environment and natural resource management, education, and other development-related subjects. Be in good health. Be of good character. The Program does not support applicants who already hold a graduate degree from an industrialized country. The Program does not sponsor applicants who received their undergraduate degree from an industrialized country unless they spent three years in their home country or another developing country. The Program does not support those who are residing, working, or studying for a graduate degree in an industrialized country. The Program does not support permanent residents or nationals of industrialized countries. The Program does not support those with refugee or asylum status. The Program does not support applicants for MBA. The Program does not support applicants for M.Phil. or Ph.D. candidates. The Program does not sponsor applicants who received a master’s degree from the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) and the Asian Institute of Technology (AIT). The Program does not support legal studies such as JD, LLM or SJD unless related to human rights, or environment. The Program does not support individuals who are enrolled in a graduate study program in industrialized countries or whose professional experience has mostly been accrued in these countries. In accepting this scholarship, you consent to the employment restriction policy of the JJ/WBGSP and recognize that will not be able to work at the World Bank or IMF for three years after completion of your academic program. All documents should be certified. Applications with non certified documents will not be processed. Executive Directors, their alternates, staff of the World Bank Group (the World Bank, International Finance Corporation, International Development Association, Multilateral Investment Guarantee Agency, and International Center for Settlement of Investment Disputes), consultants, and relatives of the aforementioned are excluded from consideration. The Program does not support certain other fields of study. Attention! The scholarship program does not sponsor undergraduate studies,distance learning programs, short-term training, conferences, seminars,thesis writing, research projects, and fields of studies not related to development. All these requests will not be considered. If you do not meet the above eligibility requirements and conditions, please do not submit an application. Other Considerations The following factors are also an essential part of the Program’s review process and reflect the objectives sought by the JJ/WBGSP: The Program gives priority to applicants from World Bank member countries which are currently eligible to borrow, especially low income countries. The Program gives priority to public sector employees. Promising female candidates are strongly supported by the Program. To the extent permitted by Program requirements and selection standards,JJ/WBGSP seeks to maintain a geographical balance among the applicants selected.
